Florence

Friday … Finally … Florence!

Of course the first sunny day in Venice, was the day we left. But that’s okay. We arrived Friday afternoon after a short 2 ½ hour train ride in sunny Florence.

Welcomed by Pino at the Hotel Il Bargellino (Google it and you’ll find the Web site). We are thrilled with our accommodations. This hotel is like staying with family. Adorable rooms, lovely art on the walls, and an amazing terrace. Yes! This sun in finally shining!

Corstiaan is just sooooo happy to be out of Venice. We probably stayed there one day too many, but it was raining all over Italy, so why not stay in a city that was already wet?

After arriving, unpacking, a quick stop to buy wine and cheese we were off to the Academia Museum to see Michelangelo’s “David” in all his glory.

What a talent Michelangelo was! After visiting Rome, and seeing his Sistine Chapel paintings, then experiencing the awe inspiring “David” we appreciate all the skill in those Italian hands of his.

Yes photo’s are forbidden, but once again, if you go at the end of the day, all the security guards are a little worn out (thus the Sistine Chapel pics!) so enjoy David as well.

Since we knew we had a few train rides ahead of us, we restrained ourselves from too much shopping. Other than a small Vatican gift for Rosemary’s mother and a few Venetian glass pieces in Venice (which are quite small) we didn’t contribute too much to the Italian economy. Except for the overpriced restaurants in Venice (but yes, as you will see in some of the photos, everything has to be shipped in to town). But now we are in Florence. That tote bag from the Container Store will finally be opened and ready for action!

We should have some awesome pictures tomorrow as we walking the city today.

Now that we have a bit better Internet access, we will do our best to do daily updates. Until then, know that we hope you are enjoying our Blog!
